Cow Elk

Everyone has to eat... we prefer elk!

The Salmon River Ranch is primarily made up flat open country, covered in several dense / thick patches of red willows that follow the several meandering streams through the lush river bottoms, mixed with many beautiful meadows of tall native grasses and a little sage, all being completely surrounded by agriculture thats sitting at the base of several predominant mountain ranges. This is an absolutely pristine property. We have a very large resident herd of elk that use our property during the months of August / September as both a travel corridor between their feeding and bedding areas, and hold up there in December until moving on to their wintering grounds. The majority of our hunting takes place early in the mornings right at day break, and or late in the evenings, as we are trying to ambush the elk as they come to and from their bedding / feeding areas. After the morning hunt, during the heat of the day we typically head back to the lodge for lunch and a quick nap, the waiting game can make for long days. Please be prepared and make sure to bring something to help occupy your time. If you are one of those people who just can't relax, there are plenty of fun things to do and see nearby. There's excellent Salmon Fishing on both the Pahsimeroi River and our Private Spring Creek, if you desire we either wade fishing or a float can be arranged for an additional cost. This is a fun, low intensity hunt that will likely fill your freezer for months to come.
